A Note From Father Rob

Some twenty-eight years ago, I went to our diocesan church camp, Camp McDowell, for the first time. It was love at first sight! Since then, I have been to Wonderful, Wonderful, Camp McDowell countless times.

At St. James, I am not alone in my love of Camp. Dozens of parishioners at St. James feel the same way I do. We call our church camp, God’s backyard, because it is a place where we experience God’s love in joyful play and natural wonder. This Sunday is Camp McDowell Sunday across our diocese. In parishes around the state, members young and old will be reminded of all of the various reasons they love our church camp.

In this coming year, the family of St. James will have many opportunities to experience Camp McDowell through volunteer work weekends, Cursillo pilgrimage or staff, various adult camps, or our own St. James parish retreat, which is in the planning stages. So, if you love Camp McDowell like I do, consider making a donation to camp’s scholarship fund or booking a room for you and your family on one of our two volunteer work weekends. If you have never been to camp, you don’t know what you are missing. Consider talking to me about Cursillo or volunteer to help out at camp. And be sure not to miss our retreat when it comes around.

I promise you, once you experience just how special Camp McDowell is, you, too, will take every opportunity you can to be in God’s backyard.

Peace my friends, Rob+
