A Note From Father Rob
What’s the best part of summer turning to fall? Is it the colors of the foliage? Is it cooler weather? Football? No, it’s the return of Sunday school! That’s right, and this year we are offering two different opportunities for you to strengthen and deepen your relationship with God.
The first class begins this Sunday, as we will gather between services at 9 a.m. to discuss and ponder the readings being used for each particular Sunday. These selected scriptures are being read in Episcopal churches and in churches of different denominations all over the world. We call these selected scriptures the Common Lectionary, and they are the basis for preaching, learning and worship by millions of Christians each Sunday.
Join your facilitator and other fellow St. James members in discussions, questions and revelations about the readings of the day. This class will help you to deepen your worship experience and strengthen your knowledge and understanding of the scriptures we read most.
Our second Sunday school offering will begin two weeks later on Oct. 15. In this class, your rector, Rob, will lead you on a journey of “The St. James Way.” Discussions will revolve around who we are and what we represent as an Episcopal congregation living, gathering and worshipping in Alexander City, Alabama. We will discuss some of our history, our ministries, our convictions and some of my past sermons that have encapsulated who we are as a parish. This class will be particularly helpful to seeker and new members and worshippers of St. James, but I also invite seasoned St. James members to join us and enrich our discussions.
Neither of these classes require any lengthy reading or preparation, and there is no homework. Come any time and every time you can. I look forward to deepening our worship experience together.
God bless, Rob+
