A Note From Father Rob

Carnage in the cities of Palestine: Such was life in this region over 3,500 years ago, as it was in Jesus’ day some 2,000 years ago, and as it is today. All manner of people have been fighting over this land since the days of early Egypt. Jerusalem itself has been destroyed twice, besieged 23 times, attacked 52 times and captured and recaptured 44 times. No fewer than three different worldwide religions claim this territory as their Holy Land and have fought for control of it for centuries.

Though there have been innumerable soldiers killed in these battles, there is little doubt more bloodshed has come at the expense of innocent men, women and children. Those affected most are often those with no power, no influence, no voice and very little choice in their life situations. They are people who just want to get along with their neighbors, raise their children, grow old and live in peace.

So here we are again. The soldiers of Hamas and the armies of Israel will do as they are directed by their commanders. Soldiers from each side will, no doubt, suffer and die; however, the real cost of those actions taken has been, and once again will be, the innocents.

Please join me in prayer for everyone who will be affected by this age-old conflict. But let us be especially mindful of the innocents on all sides: the young, the old, the weak, the sick, those who mourn for loved ones and those who yearn for peace.

May God keep us, Rob+
