A Note From Father Rob
As I am sure you all know, this coming Wednesday, Nov. 1, will be All Saints Day, the day after All Hallows Eve. Here at St. James, we will celebrate All Saints on the following Sunday, Nov. 5.
The observance of a day or festival to celebrate the martyrs of the Church dates back to the late third century. Thought to have started in the churches of Ireland, then England, and eventually all of Europe, the celebration of the saints of old became known as All Saints Day. The celebration now includes other faithful witnesses who have died more recently, as well.
We have all known people who seem to possess an extraordinary faith that guides them through their lives. Perhaps you have been fortunate enough to have been raised or influenced by such a person over the course of your life. I have known several people whose faith and witness have inspired me and my journey, and I call upon the lessons I learned from them daily.
This next Wednesday, on All Saints Day, give some thought to those saints who helped deepen your faith, especially those who are no longer with us. We remember them fondly and give thanks for the inspiration we received from them.
