Gifts…

This is indeed a season of gifts – gifts to give and gifts to receive.

I imagine many of us are busy choosing just the right gift for family and friends.

It is certainly the season of giving to charities which touch our hearts.

In addition to “things” or “experiences”, we can offer our unique God-given gifts, not only at Christmas, but all year long.

I see this in abundance in our St. James family. Our parish shares generosity, worship, welcome, the ministry of hospitality, the ministry of presence, the ministry of joy and fun, and so much more with each other and with the community beyond our red door.

My favorite Christmas hymn is In the Bleak Midwinter. The last verse always brings tears to my eyes:

What can I give Him? Poor as I am

If I were a shepherd, I would give a lamb.

If I were a wise man, I would do my part.

What can I give Him? Give my heart.

That’s exactly the gift that Jesus wants from us, the gift of our heart. He has given us the greatest gift of all. He asks only that we share that gift of love and compassion with all of God’s children. It is truly a gift that keeps on giving.

Advent and Almost Christmas Blessings, Judy Q+
