A Note From Father Rob
Hmm, what to preach about this week? We have several interesting topics in our readings for the 20th Sunday after Pentecost. As I look them over, I realize I might need to tread lightly.
First, there is the Old Testament reading from Genesis in which God and Adam discuss Adam’s need for a helper. God created a woman from Adam’s rib to be that helper. I can’t imagine what could go wrong with that sermon!
In the Gospel of Mark, the Pharisees step right into it when, in an attempt to trap Jesus, they ask him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” Who was the genius who came up with that question? I would like to think I am a little smarter than a Pharisee, so I may need to skip that one, too.
I will have to look at our New Testament reading and our Psalm to see if anything there inspires me, anything, anything at all. This could well be the last time I contemplate these particular passages in Proper 22 for a sermon, as they will not come up again until after I retire. To that I say, “Thanks be to God!”
See ya’ Sunday. Rob+
