A Note From Father Rob
What a treat! At 10:30 a.m. this Sunday, November 3, the congregation of St. James Episcopal will join with the congregation of Perfect Peace Baptist to celebrate together the one thing that unifies and connects people from every neighborhood of our city to every corner of the world: the love and hope we all share in the life, death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Surely, there is no greater hope for us all than the love of Jesus. When we come together in worship, particularly with those in other denominations, we show our community that our dedication to our Lord and the living out of our faith are more powerful than anything that can divide us in this world.
Will this Sunday’s service be messy? Of course, it will, and honestly, I’m already a little uncomfortable with that. I like my services by the book, literally. But the love I have for Jesus is bigger than the way I worship. Will communion be different? Yes, but that too will add to the mystery of it. I imagine the service will be different for all of us, but Jesus would like that.
To come together with our neighbors, to have them host us in their sacred worship space and to share with them in the celebration of our mutual love of Jesus is a special opportunity and wonderful way for us to wrap up the season of Pentecost and enter into the time of Advent. Please make every effort to join me in celebrating our common faith with our friends at Perfect Peace.
God bless, Rob+
