COMMISSIONING

How interesting that the Naval Academy calls the graduation ceremony “Commissioning”.   Naval and Marine officers are commissioned, sent out with others to honor their call to serve.    They take an oath, not unlike our Baptismal Covenant, to defend against evil and strive for justice.

It has been an emotional Commissioning Week in Annapolis.  Watching in awe the Blue Angels as they soar into the heavens.   Enjoying the Color Parade of all the Companies with the music of the Drum and Bugle Corps and the Bag Pipers. Holding my breath as the parachutes glided onto the field.

The deepest emotion is that this class of 2024 has been mentored by the Class of 1974, to continue the “link in the chain”.   These young men and women will serve our country continuing a tradition of thousands over the centuries.    My prayer is for their safety and courage as they face the unknown challenges to come, as others before them.

Aren’t we too “links in the chain” of untold Christians who have come before us?

May we all find strength within through the power of the Holy Spirit and look to the heavens as we are called to love and serve.

Trinity Blessings, Judy Q
