A Note From Father Rob

By the time you read this note, I will be walking around one of my favorite places on this Earth, Camp McDowell. I travel there this week for a meeting of the Camp Construction Committee, an important aspect of Camp that I am glad to be part of. For those of you who may not know, our diocesan camp, Camp McDowell, is a wonderful resource for all of us.

Located in Winston County, Alabama, our camp is over 1,100 acres of camp facilities, walking trails, fields, trees, unique flora and fauna, a river, a lake, farm animals, bugs, music, arts, crafts and fun! With a fulltime staff of about 40 of the nicest people I know, Camp McDowell is a great place for rest, rejuvenation and connecting with your spirituality, whether you are a lone camper, part of a group, young or old or in any stage or walk of life.

The St. James parish will hold a retreat at Camp McDowell next year, in March. If you have not already signed up for our getaway, I hope you will consider doing so. If you are a longtime attendee of Camp McDowell, this is all old news to you. But if you have yet to discover the beauty, peace and spirit that is our camp, you are in for a treat.

I look forward to seeing y’all this Sunday, in town or at our last lake service, but until then, you can find me basking in the setting of God’s backyard at Wonderful, Wonderful Camp McDowell.
