A Note From Father Rob

The rush and the work of the St. James Bazaar is over. The Thanksgiving turkey leftovers are long gone and our families have returned home. Our Angel Tree, covered in paper angels with the names of our neighbors in need written on them, stands nearly depleted of angels. It’s finally time to slow down for Advent!

December is just beginning, and though Christmas is 25 days away, the temptation to busy ourselves with shopping, cooking, cleaning, decorating, wrapping and more threatens our time to spiritually prepare ourselves for this hopeful time of year. But, Advent offerings at St. James can help keep you on track.

In the wooden rack in the old narthex, you can find tracks about Advent and the church. On the table in Stough Hall you can find your daily devotional for Advent. On Tuesdays at 10:00 am you can join others in the nave for Centering Prayer. On Wednesdays you can join us for Advent Tea and Reflections at 2:00 pm. And, of course, we continue our Sunday school offerings of adult formation “How Then Shall We Live?”, a Sunday gospel reading reflection.

Please consider enhancing your Advent/Christmas experience with one or more of these offerings. It may be just the spiritual respite you need during your busy days in December, that allow you to fully live into this wonderful season.

Peace, Rob+
