A Note From Father Rob
Preparing for Sunday services this week, I pondered what prayers we might use to recognize the occasion of Mother’s Day. I could not help but let my thoughts wonder into memories of my own mother.

This is a busy week for remembrances and celebrations.
Sunday, May 12, is Mother’s Day, our sacred tradition in the United States to honor our mothers, grandmothers, and all who have been like a mother to us.

A Note From Father Rob
This week, we celebrate the namesake of our parish, St. James. There were quite a few disciples named James in the New Testament scripture, so determining the facts about ‘our’ James can be a little difficult. Here are some things we do know.

When I was a law enforcement chaplain, I wrote this reflection for our Sheriff Department’s newsletter. You have heard some of this story before, but I wanted to share this with you as we reflect on our readings for this Sunday.

A Note From Father Rob
The Bible is full of stories about ancient heroes, men and women alike who were bigger than life. Figures like Abraham, Sarah, Moses, David and the Virgin Mary are a little hard for us to relate to, but this time of year, during the season of Easter, we get to read stories of a different nature.

A Note From Father Rob
Last Sunday, I preached about the ministry of hospitality, which of course, can be manifested in many different ways. I mentioned some of the ways we do it together at St. James, in many of the services and ministries of the Church.

Are you new(er) to St. James? Sometimes, those of us who have been here for years, or as is the case for some, generations, forget that not everyone who comes to church here knows everything there is to know about our parish.

A verse from this Sunday’s Psalm says: Many are saying, "Oh, that we might see better times!" Lift up the light of your countenance upon us, O Lord. (Psalm 4:6)

Whew! It’s over. As enjoyable, meaningful, inspirational and edifying as it all was, it is so good to have it all behind us. Let’s face it, Holy Week is a lot of work! A lot of work accomplished by a lot of people.

The refrain of our Burial of the Dead liturgy is ever present on my mind in this glorious Easter season, this season of Resurrection and New Life.
