Our Anglican tradition remembers Mary, the mother of Jesus, on August 15. We honor her willingness to say “yes” to be the God-bearer and her devotion to her son throughout his ministry on earth.

You all know how much I love music and singing. I’ve often heard that singing is praying twice. I have thanked a couple of bishops who incorporate songs into their sermons for giving me permission to do the same from time to time.

This week is the 81st General Convention of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America. The Convention is being held in Louisville, Kentucky, and yes, our Deacon Judy is there.

Beginning this Sunday, after the nine o’clock service, I will hold a confirmation class for anyone wishing to be confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church. This class will also be for anyone who wishes to reaffirm baptismal vows and the faith to which they have committed themselves.

As I head to General Convention in Louisville next week, I am reminded that we, as individual Episcopalians and members of a parish congregation, are part of an even larger family.

Summer at the lake. Ah! It doesn’t get too much better than that. So, where is the best place and what is the best time to enjoy the beauty and serenity of Lake Martin? It just may be Church in the Pines at noon on Sundays!

What is it about summertime outdoor music that touches my heart?
Thursday evening, my husband and I joined Auburn locals on the front lawn of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church facing the front porch to listen to Brett McDaniel strum his acoustic guitar and sing John Prine tunes and some of his own compositions.
