This week is the 81st General Convention of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America. The Convention is being held in Louisville, Kentucky, and yes, our Deacon Judy is there.

Beginning this Sunday, after the nine o’clock service, I will hold a confirmation class for anyone wishing to be confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church. This class will also be for anyone who wishes to reaffirm baptismal vows and the faith to which they have committed themselves.

As I head to General Convention in Louisville next week, I am reminded that we, as individual Episcopalians and members of a parish congregation, are part of an even larger family.

Summer at the lake. Ah! It doesn’t get too much better than that. So, where is the best place and what is the best time to enjoy the beauty and serenity of Lake Martin? It just may be Church in the Pines at noon on Sundays!

What is it about summertime outdoor music that touches my heart?
Thursday evening, my husband and I joined Auburn locals on the front lawn of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church facing the front porch to listen to Brett McDaniel strum his acoustic guitar and sing John Prine tunes and some of his own compositions.

Among our readings for this Sunday, we find selections from the Book of Deuteronomy and the Gospel of Mark, both of which speak of keeping God’s Sabbath, but in very different ways.

The long green season is soon to begin. No, I’m not referring to the season of summer. I’m referring to the season of Pentecost. The Church calendar season that begins with the Day of Pentecost.

On this Pentecost Sunday, as we wear our red outfits and gaze at our striking red altar hangings and vestments, the fire of the Holy Spirit will fill St. James.

Preparing for Sunday services this week, I pondered what prayers we might use to recognize the occasion of Mother’s Day. I could not help but let my thoughts wonder into memories of my own mother.

This is a busy week for remembrances and celebrations.
Sunday, May 12, is Mother’s Day, our sacred tradition in the United States to honor our mothers, grandmothers, and all who have been like a mother to us.

This week, we celebrate the namesake of our parish, St. James. There were quite a few disciples named James in the New Testament scripture, so determining the facts about ‘our’ James can be a little difficult. Here are some things we do know.
